Groupe PSA wins the 2019 International Van of the Year (IVOTY) Award
- IVOTY: A prestigious award for the new generation of Peugeot Partner, Citroën Berlingo, Opel Combo and Vauxhall Combo vans, showcased at the IAA Commercial Vehicles trade show in Hannover, Germany
- Recognition for the core model strategy set out in the Push to Pass plan
- Serving to strengthen Groupe PSA’s position as Europe’s leading supplier of compact vans with more than 30% of the market
The new Peugeot Partner, Citroën Berlingo and Opel/Vauxhall Combo Vans were designed as part of a cross-business programme in which services were systematically tailored as closely as possible to the needs of BtoB customers in terms of convenience, driving assistance systems and safety. This new generation of compact vans is already a commercial success, taking first place on the European podium in 2017 with the current edition of the Peugeot Partner, followed by the Citroën Berlingo Van in third place, after ten years on the market.
For Jarlath Sweeney, chairman of the IVOTY jury, the new line-up is “the most significant small panel van development in years”. Commenting on the jury’s decision, he added: “The common programme to the four Brands of Groupe PSA, the Peugeot Partner, Citroën Berlingo van, Opel Combo and Vauxhall Combo, is well future-proofed, packed with technological advancements to aid the driver and financially benefit the owner or fleet manager. The creation of the overload alert system is a great initiative as it will ensure compliance and enhance safety. The availability of two wheelbase versions is another step forward as is the introduction of an all-wheel-drive variant, considering that an increasing number of utility companies are looking for 4x4 traction in a small van. All in all, an excellent package, well put together. ”
The new models were developed using the EMP2 platform and accommodate the latest generation of powertrains and driver assistance equipment. They offer a range of services for BtoB customers, meeting the highest standards on the market in terms of spaciousness and modularity, with a load capacity of 1,000 kg.
To cover all customer needs, the vans will come in two lengths and will be available in 2-, 3- and 5- seater versions.
With each generation, Groupe PSA has brought useful and major innovations to the segment, now proposing two technologies that are unique on the market: the overload indicator and surround rear vision.
With this new offering, Groupe PSA intends to consolidate its leading position in the commercial vehicle market.
“Groupe PSA is very proud to receive this prestigious international award, which comes in recognition of our expertise and the positioning of our line-up as the best on the market. With this new generation of compact vans, we have reached a critical new milestone in the renewal of our BtoB range, in line with our ambitions for commercial vehicles as part of the Push to Pass strategic plan,” said Carlos Tavares, Chairman of the Groupe PSA Managing Board.
The International Van of the Year Award was launched in 1992. The jury brings together 25 journalists and publishers from independent magazines specialising in light commercial vehicles.
Supplementing the reversing camera, surround rear vision provides a more peripheral view of the area behind the vehicle and covers the passenger side blind spot, which is vital in a fully panelled vehicle.
